Reflective Detail of the Management Style

Question: Write an essay on Reflective Detail of the Management Style? Answer: Description The current essay is a reflective detail of the management style I bear through my final year of management placement as a student nurse. Delegation of the duties is the prime event on which this current essay is based upon. Analysis of this event of management involves the utilization of the updated and current references with close relation to the relevant theories and models in context of management. Feelings As a student nurse, I got the opportunity of managing the ward of the healthcare setting. It not only encouraged me but also provided me with the sense of empowerment as well. This opportunity came under the supervision of the ward manager. I faced a situation during the delegation of duties for the morning shift. I received a request from a senior Healthcare Assistant (HCA) about allowing her to work with another senior nurse (SN) in place of the assigned bank nurse to let both the HCA and the SN to work together. However, I had to ask her to for working with the bank SN because she is a permanent staff in the ward. I allowed the bank HCA to work with the permanent SN. This action of mine hold a reason behind that it will prove to be beneficial at a overall basis for the healthcare setting and the people in it. Evaluation Although the number of staffs in the ward was very small for which I faced a shortage of hands to deliver the care services but the shift went smoothly and efficiently. A good and efficient team was evident with the mix of various skills thus making the ultimate work much easier. A jovial and happy atmosphere among the people was seen to prevail at the hospital setting. I got a compliment from the ward manager regarding my ability to delegate the staffs in a good and efficient manner. It provided me with encouragement to achieve more experience on delegating staffs. Analysis Going by the words of Kershaw (2013), in the nursing role the leadership and management holds a vital position in current times. Leadership facilitates effective management execution to get things done. Management through effective delegation of staffs brings about staff empowerment (Nygrdh et al. 2011). The transactional management theory through transactional leadership depicts task and need orientation relating to reward. Classical management theory focuses on identification of the one best way for task management and performance. Maintenance of group effectiveness, executing problem-solving processes and group identity development are the prime need of an effective leader (Spitzer, 2015). In context of being accountable for task delegation and duties, the nurses need to ensure sufficient support and supervision on each individual with delegated tasks for a safe and compassionate healthcare service delivery. Conclusion It can be concluded that the staff management and staff delegation is a significant role of healthcare professionals for delivery of quality care services. The study reveals the assistance of the management theories and models in contributing to the success of the event. References Kershaw, B. (2013).
